Suspicion very briefly strikes him, but withers and dies as quickly as it starts; it isn't hard to imagine for Sam that this young man has learned his name through Gandalf. He takes a brief second to chew and swallow his food before trying to reply; "Aye. Sam Gamgee."
Sam is prepared to leave it at that, but the questions come next. Not an uncommon thing, of course.
