An hour after Ossidia's announcement, the four groups are dispatched to the four sources of the magic cast upon the city of Goldvale. Watch out—the levels of magic here are so intense that there's no telling what might happen next. When the groups arrive at these sources, they'll be met with a surprise. As these sources the cause of the apparitions appearing around town, their magic manages to reach a bit further where it's most concentrated. In each group, one character will be randomly chosen to have an apparition representing a memory appear to stop the group from destroying it. These are complex illusions based on that random character's most traumatic memory and will affect everyone in the group. For example, if a character's most traumatic memory was failing to prevent the death of his wife, the source will recreate where it took place and represent itself as the wife.

Subthreads and descriptions of each location can be found below. Those who have been chosen must describe their character's memories so that everyone can participate.

[How to explain? They'll probably realize the girl in the scene is her after a while, but she doesn't want to have to say so. They'd pity her, and she'd rather they didn't.]

If you haven't anything more definite than that to go on then I suggest my plan still stands as our best option. We do have to make our way past these thieves some how.

...if you insist. [she grits her teeth, not wanting to just go along with this but not wanting to explain what's really going on.] Let's go, then.

Stick close by. It's gonna be alright. We'll take care of it if they give us any trouble. You just focus on finding this thing and taking it out, alright?

[Objection noted. He would at least be careful and take the most secretive way, the one with the most cover, over to the man who appeared to be the leader of these bandits.
Haytham had done this many times. Sneaking up on an adversary was something he had a lot of experience with. They never even knew he was there until he stuck, grabbing the leader figure from behind and shoving his hidden blade into the area of his back that made for an instant kill. ]

[Lyn immediately goes for another bandit, shoving the Mani Katti into his torso. Leader or lackey, a jolt of satisfaction instantly rocks her; how long has she been wanting to do this? To get her revenge on these monsters who killed her entire tribe? She goes for another one, stabbing him in the back of the neck with a shout of anger. This is what you deserve!]

[Judar has been quiet for most of this trip, save for snickering to himself every once in a while, but he comes alive during the fight. His spells are still pretty basic stuff, but he uses them with skill, easily knocking down and out any enemies that get close to him or the other members of the party.]

Is that all there is? This isn't even a challenge!

[There were more, Lyn thinks bitterly, at least fifty of those scoundrels. The rest were just busy slaughtering everyone who hadn't died from poisoning yet.]

I suppose so.

Good, then let's not waste anymore time.

[So said while a pair of bandits slid slowly to the ground in front of him, dead, and no longer a threat. He walked over to where he believed he had seen the glow earlier, just over that small ridge. ]

Yes. [She follows, her jaw clenched tight as she continues to hold back all the feelings she's having. Fighting had only been satisfying for so long, after all.]

Are you certain you are well?

[Was it just his imagination or did she seem unusually tense?]

I'm just fine, thank you. [She isn't, but aside from her tension she's not showing any other signs of it. She's proud of herself for being able to mask her feelings so well.]

[If she said so he certainly wouldn't argue the point or try to draw anything more out of her. That was usually only annoying anyway.]

Right, then...

[The glowing object was approached but Haytham still kept some distance between himself and it. ]

We should decide on the best method for smashing this thing. I don't suppose anyone has any kind of explosive?

Left all mine at home. [He says it like a joke, but he's actually a little disappointed.] But if anyone's got a bottle of booze and a match, I could whip one up real quick.

... Guessin' gasoline is too much to ask for.

[Gasoline? There was an unfamiliar term, but luckily it seemed that discovering what that was would be unnecessary. Haytham nodded towards the body of one of the thieves that was laying on the ground behind the young man. ]

It looks like he was about to make off with some. Can you make use of that?

I know I don't. We used our last mine during the battle with the Black Fang's remnants.

And I have only a few smoke bombs, nothing that could do any real damage.

[The area was given a good looking over but being as devastated as it was there was not a whole lot left that looked like it could be useful... unless there was something he missed seeing, of course.]

We could try brute strength but there is no way of telling what kind of defense the object might be able to make against us.

[It could be dangerous, in other words.]

Right. I don't think ordinary weapons or explosives will help us, either.

Have you a suggestion then for something you believe would effectively destroy this object?

[Magical glowing things were a touch beyond his realm of expertise. ]

We might just have to experiment until we find a way.

Magic might work, if anyone knows how to use it...

Magic... right.

[He would just be looking for some other way, maybe there was some gunpowder nearby or... ah, a heavy club? That might stand a chance.]

Do you know any?

[If not, well, he might have to try doing things a touch more physically. ]

Unfortunately, no. And the friends I have who know magic are still back in Elibe.

Then we will just have to manage it ourselves.

[The club he spotted was retrieved from the ground and given a good swing to test it's weight. It was strong enough to crack the skull of a man so hopefully it would be enough for this task. ]

You may want to stand back. I'm not certain what will happen.

[Warning given, Haytham allowed the group a few moments to take cover, before he swung the club at the object with all the force he could manage.]

Right. [She steps back; she's a bit calmer by now as the discussion's distracted her, but still rather tense.]

[The strike itself did very little, but the glowing object being loose on its perch wobbled and fell. Landing heavily on the ground it did suffer a crack and with a final blinding flash of light the glow faded.]
