[ so, things have gotten started... cake's been cut and eaten... presents handed over... which is hirato's cue to find himself a corner somewhere and just observe for a bit. heck yeah, son. a job well done if you ask him... but maybe it's weird of him to kind of not partake all that much after he went through all the trouble to get akari's (and gareki's) grumpy tsun butts here. well, he's always been the type to stray. always been the type to hide away a little when all's said and done.

if anyone wants a little chat or just a little break from advanced level socializing (more than one person at a time), he's certainly not trying to make the seats near him uninviting. ]

You drag me to a party that you and Iva came up with but you're hiding all the way here. What's the point if you're not going to be as noisy as them?

[He jabs a thumb towards the direction of the celebration. Really, the only one who should be going back there is Gareki himself. He just really wants to hide away too though...]

And to think I've spent so many years assuming there's no requirement to be noisy at a celebration.

[ but it's not really a retort like usual; there's norally a certain edge in it that's very much absent right now. ]

You say it like you're some old geezer. Well, I suppose you are getting on with your years.

[Somehow Hirato doesn't sound quite as annoying as usual. Gareki wonders if something was bothering him.]

Hey, are you finally reaching that middle-age crisis stage already?

It's a bit cruel to pick on the elderly, isn't it?

[ but he's mainly being silly for the sake of keeping up a mask. it's a much bigger problem, from hirato's perspective, to be stranded here with no way home than he'd like anyone to know. ]

But your concern is as touching as ever. When the middle-age crisis strikes, you'll be the first to spot it for sure.

[Yeah, you better put up some kind of warning for Gareki's filthy tsun mouth because he's certainly muttering some awful things kids shouldn't be hearing.]

I thought I clearly expressed my disinterest in a party.

[Figures they would have ignored him. Despite the fact that his friends have kindly thrown a party for him on his birthday, the birthday boy is being pretty grumpy.

He's almost glad that they aren't on the ship at the moment. Gareki is pretty sure Yogi would have brandished out the stupid cat costume and performed for him as entertainment. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves, but at this point, Gareki feels like he should pick himself up and quietly sneak out...]

( he can try, but the second mama bear catches sight of him, he's getting an arm hooked around his shoulders and his face most likely cradled against a big soft something. )

Oi, fix that face of yours! Today you're supposed to be enjoying yourself! Don't make the guests think we're bad company!

( despite her chiding tone, she's clearly as jovial as ever. )

[Oooohhh... and Gareki was so close to the door!

Now he finds himself locked close towards the woman, and with his face dangerously pressed up against her. Nope, nope. This won't do.

Cue Gareki's attempt to struggle out of Iva's hold, as futile as that may be.]

I do sincerely apologize for my default face...!

[The terrible frown on his face might as well freeze there permanently since that's his main expression.]

[ NICE TRY STAR OF THE EVENING, but papa wolf's not about to let gareki off the hook just yet... ]

Being the center of attention has never been my type of thing. You can all easily celebrate without me around, right?

[ A party can't actually be a party without games! And so Yogi had entrusted himself to preparing just that.

With assorted blow horns, balloons, and various small toys the blond had focused his soul attention on one thing... the wall. This wall, that was now decorated with a wide picture of what looked like tiny, deformed animal.

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, IT WAS TIME TO PLAY PIN THE TAIL ON THE NIJI. ]

Okay, who wants to go first? Make sure to put the blindfold on before you do!

[ He seems excited, and equipped with several makeshift tails and a bandana, Yogi wants impatiently for the first victim player. ]

[If this was a more sophisticated adult party, Gareki would probably have been a little more enthusiastic about it. But NOPE.

We have children games. And Yogi.]

I'm sure Nai would faint if I told him you cut the tails off of Nijis and use them for games.

[ There are children games because Gareki is a child. This makes sense.

YOGI IS JUST TRYING TO HELP NOW SHUSH AND ACT LIKE A CHILD!!! ]

Huh... huh!? I-I didn't cut off anything! These aren't real, Gareki-kun!

It might look like a real Niji, but it's not! I promise you it's not-!! [ Panicked, Yogi will dash over to the boy's side and extend the tails out to him. ] Do you want to feel them? Look, they're paper!

[How dare you!! Gareki is already in his ripe years of maturity.

And wow, why did you take him so seriously, Yogi? Of course Gareki knows it's fake. Looking even more annoyed, Gareki goes ahead and slaps the tail away.]

I know it's fake. I was joking.

[YES, HE CAN MAKE JOKES TOO.]

[ well... leave it to yogi to bring the maturity levels down more than a few notches. a whole bunch of notches. it's not exactly surprising, however, and something being perfectly normal is a kind of security that maybe they all need.
