What: The Alumina Cup, a local swordsmanship tournament open to all citizens of Goldvale.

Where: a plaza at the Ironwall District

[ Hundreds of people of all ages are gathered at the Iron District, but what for? If one makes it through the crowd, they'll find a large elevated ring. Above it, a banner flies up in the air with two words printed in big bold letters: Alumina Cup. After a harmony of trumpets, the announcer uses a cone to amplify his voice as he begins the program. ]

Ladies and gentlemen, we proudly present Goldvale's annual 121st Alumina Cup! [ Applause and loud cheers from the audience. ] As you all know, this is the day when swordsmen and women from all walks of life gather here at Ironwall to test their skill as they make their way to the top and prove themselves worthy of the prized Alumina Cup trophy! You all know the rules and I know you're all excited, so that leaves us with one final question: Are you ready? [ Even louder cheers, whistles and screams from the audience! ] Then let's begin!

[ The elimination rounds begin. Player characters will not recognize any of the participants, but those in particularly fancy hats might actually be their fellow guild members in disguise. Cheer for your favorite! Or heckle, if that's your thing. ]

( NOTE: The results of this tournament were predetermined by the players. What will be played out here are the matches! )

[ This is where characters who are not in the tournament may start threads taking place in the area. Treat it like a mingle log. Feel free to do whatever you wish: observe, cheer, boo, pickpocket unsuspecting NPCs... Anything goes! Don't assume you can get away so easily with the last one, though. ]

[of course he's showed up! ... and of course he hasn't actually like, entered, because he is a tiny babby who bad sword do. but he's totally here to cheer on the coolest* princess ever... of course, he also can't cheer.

but he's there! and he's clapping for kougyoku and he just looks so happy to be here, because wow this is so cool, a tournament and everything!

*note: rion is, like, the only person in dyspros who still thinks kougyoku is cool.]

[ Frodo's quite unsure who to root for, here.

There were some that were receiving more cheers than others, some receiving more disheartening 'boos' than others. By no means does he want to be a poor sportsman, so he's cheering for pretty much everyone, at this point!

Though, he notices that there is someone quite near him that is cheering for one person, when there are not many other cheers to be heard. Of course he cheers too, but he hardly knows whom the person is! It never hurts to find out, though. Right? ]

I beg your pardon. [ Frodo looks towards the person, and nods to the figure in the distance. ] But may I ask whom it is you are cheering for?

[to be fair, rion isn't cheering out loud; there's no yelling, no noises from his mouth. however there's a whole lot of applause for one specific person. he gestures at one of the combatants who appears to be... covered with a hat, but rion's twigged onto who it is based on how she looks under it and her fighting style - it's kougyoku, even if he's probably not supposed to know that.

he points. doesn't say a word, just points. sorry, frodo, he can't say much of anything.]

[ It takes Frodo a moment to see who he's pointing to. He can understand why this man doesn't want to speak- it is quite loud, and Frodo finds it even a little hard to concentrate on his thoughts, or whom he wants to watch, even! Silence is certainly something hard to come upon here.

He watches as the finger points to Kougyoku, and nods. ] Ah, that I see! He certainly is an interesting fellow to look at.

[ So is everyone here, though. ]

I beg your pardon if I seemed to be intruding upon your business. I was merely curious! Never before have I seen such a festivity such as this one before!

[rion shakes his head, and then -- well, there's no way he's going to be able to communicate this without the jewelry. so he taps his bracelet, brings the smoky screen up, and begins typing.

frodo will have a message soon enough.]

We didn't have anything like this where I was from, either.

[ He doesn't quite understand until Rion starts to type. And that's when the idea kind of strikes him there. ]

O-oh. Are you unable to speak?

[ That doesn't make him feel good. ] I, I must apologize! I hadn't known...!

[he doesn't seem too fussed! he shakes his head quickly, not upset at all. he's in fact smiling a little bit. and he doesn't seem to be too inconvenienced by typing (though it's a little hard when there's things going on) - a lot of people aren't familiar with such things, but it's like a keyboard enough that he types fairly effortlessly.]

It's fine! You couldn't have known. :)

[ The look on this lad's face seems to help! Frodo had been worried- he had hoped that no offense of the sort had been taken. That would have been the last thing he wanted!

He offered the lad a smile, and nodded his head. ] Thank you.

[ Now, would he want to continue talking...or writing? Frodo hardly wanted to off the conversation at that point in time, but all the while, he didn't want to bother him if he couldn't speak. ] Would I be a burden to you if I were to stay with you?

[he doesn't write in response... but that's because he doesn't need to. it's an easy enough question to answer, and he shakes his head; smiling would indicate as well that he means 'no, you wouldn't be a burden, you're welcome to stay'.

he's going to be sort of watching what's going on, but he is definitely all sorts of up for conversation!]

[ and here's roxy sitting on the other side of him, one elbow resting on his shoulder because personal space sucks tbh, and roxy wants as little of it as she can get. ]

So there's some kinda tournament going on, right? [ of course she knows the answer, and she flashes rion a grin, waggling her eyebrows ] Fucking awesome.

[rion doesn't mind the lack of personal space coming from her; in the short time they have known each other he has decided that she is safe and therefore is okay with her being in his personsl space. he's very physical affection starved, so he's not complaining at all.

he turns to her and smiles, nodding excitedly. there are no words, of course, but the obvious sentiment is 'I know, right?']

[ even though rion can't talk, roxy has little problem understanding him—she can tell just by facial expressions alone just how he feels and right now? it looks like he's excited.

so she'll take that but of information and run with it. if he's excited to watch he's either never been to one of these things before (like roxy) or he's rooting for someone. or maybe it's both! only way to find out is to ask. ]

So... You rootin for anyone?

[an enthusiastic nod as he points out one person in a hat - he'd figured out who it waa already based on their combat style, because ain't nobody fighting like that normally here.

it's totally kougyoku. of course, it just looks like a person in a hat, apparently.]

[ Frodo had never seen a sword match before!

...Well, he had, when Boromir and Merry and Pippin had been sparring that one day. But it was quite unlike what he was going to see here- this was actual fighting in a tournament, of all things! And the winner was to be given a beautiful trophy, one that was so unique, he could barely take his eyes off of it.

Unfortunately, Frodo knows nobody participating thus far. But he's willing to cheer for them all the same! ]

[.Considering the only person she knows is Lithuania, she roots for him. He's eliminated seventually, but she'll still stick around.. Sword matches were the things of movies, so or wag exciting to sew in person.

If a little worrying. Wincing, she calls out. ]
