annivurtstag, princess lazuli! - hunting down the sources (21st)
Who: Those who signed up for the event.
What: Hunting down the sources.
When: Redheiss (June) 21st, anytime between morning and late afternoon
Where: Specified below.
Rating: PG, may get higher.
An hour after Ossidia's announcement, the four groups are dispatched to the four sources of the magic cast upon the city of Goldvale. Watch out—the levels of magic here are so intense that there's no telling what might happen next. When the groups arrive at these sources, they'll be met with a surprise. As these sources the cause of the apparitions appearing around town, their magic manages to reach a bit further where it's most concentrated. In each group, one character will be randomly chosen to have an apparition representing a memory appear to stop the group from destroying it. These are complex illusions based on that random character's most traumatic memory and will affect everyone in the group. For example, if a character's most traumatic memory was failing to prevent the death of his wife, the source will recreate where it took place and represent itself as the wife.
Subthreads and descriptions of each location can be found below. Those who have been chosen must describe their character's memories so that everyone can participate.

You guys ready?
[She turns to her teammates with a confident smirk, cracking her knuckles as she gets herself psyched up for the fight. It's been a while since she's done any real fighting, especially with her new Summoner abilities, but Korra carefully hides any nervousness she has.
And she is nervous, no longer being the fighting expert she was at home.]

he waves a hand. go on, then. he's ready, at least. ]
no subject
With that, he went ahead and lead them in, pushing the door open carefully.] Alright, let's go. Stay alert.
no subject
The old shop's rotting floors creek underfoot. Korra evokes a flame in her hand to illuminate the room.]
There's a loooot of magic floating around in here...
[Korra's voice is low as she kicks aside scattered amulets and scrolls lying on the dusty ground. She's spent enough time around Mages to recognize the feeling of magic by now, and this stuff's powerful. Her eyes catch an ornate grandfather clock, half concealed in shadow, standing in the corner.]
Especially over here...
[Frowning, Korra makes her way across the shop towards the clock.]
no subject
there's nothing particularly of note in them, so they can't be the cause. besides, he can't sense magic nearly as well as korra can, so he chooses to just trust her judgement with the clock.
he gets up close to it, and prods it with a finger. ]
no subject
Unlike Korra, he couldn't sense magic well but he can feel an ominous feeling from thick air hanging around the room. Looking over some of the scattered objects, he wonders what happened in the shop. It's so messy!
Noticing the grandfather clock as well, he approaches it as well.]
That's our mark, we should be careful--- [Too late, Nic touched it. Gritting his teeth in annoyance, he could only hope that it won't triggers anything.]
no subject
Suddenly, the room shifts. The old magic shop is gone, and the party is now stranded in the center of a large, equally dusty storage room. The floor is mostly uncluttered, cleared to make cheap practice space for probenders.]
What the-
[Then walks in this creep. Korra's confident bravado drains with the color in her face.]
We gotta get outta here.
[Stating the obvious? Yes. But she's useless for thinking on her feet right now. Even beginning to comprehend what's going on is too much to ask of her. In this room, Amon staring them down, nowhere to run... She's a deer in the headlights.
Where's Mako? He's supposed to be here!
Nope. Korra's stuck here with two guys she just met a few minutes ago. Are they even any good? She'll find out soon enough. At least he can't take her bending away. There's nothing to be taken. But that doesn't mean he can't bloodbend them to death. Nobody ever figured it out, what makes the masked revolutionary such an incredibly powerful waterbender. Even in broad daylight, he can gain complete control over multiple peoples' bodies at once by manipulating the water inside them. It's excruciatingly painful, very illegal, and terrifying to experience.]
((OOC: If you guys need more info, let me know! I don't want to completely take over the thread, and NPCing Amon is pretty much the epitome of godmodding, so I figure we can separately put in our tags what he's doing to each of our characters?))
no subject
[ did you expect the oldest member of the group to be the most mature? well, sorry.
as the room changes, nic looks around in confusion. he sets a hand on his sword. but the entry of the new person doesn't garner much more than a raised eyebrow. the mask is weird, and so is the girl's reaction. ]
Who's he?
[ his words come out uneven, but no less understandable for it. nic waits for some kind of explanation, since korra seems to know who it is. ]
no subject
[Wonderful. Not only do they have to be careful about those strange potions in the room, now they seems to have been taken to a different dimension thanks to Nic. He groans to himself, his mind is already on crisis mode with the appearance of a strange man with equally strange mask. The only person who seems to know who the man is seems to be the girl but one look at her is enough to tell him that guy is dangerous. He immediately reaches for them, trying to put her behind him while he brings up the shield to guard.]
Hey, you. Call down. Who is he?
[He doubts they can leave the room since the grandfather clock they are supposed to investigate looks to be what triggered this change. All the strange happening taking place in Goldvale, how is this related to it? Think, Tieria Erde. Make the connections!!! He's desperately raking his mind, on top of figuring out what to do with their situation.]
Nic, tell me what you feel when you touched the clock. [All the while, Tieria keeps his eyes on the stranger.]
no subject
[Korra pulls herself together enough to jerk away from Tieria's hold. Well-meaning as it may be, she doesn't want to be coddled, especially by the guy who could be swinging a sword at her in a couple seconds. She swallows hard, putting on a scowl to try to make up for her moment of frozen fear.]
He's a bloodbender. Which means that he can control the water in our bodies and make us do whatever he wants.
[Her voice still carries a slight shake, much as she is desperately trying to control it. As soon as he notices them, they're done for.]
We gotta split up.
[Korra's ready to dart away as soon as she's sure these guys know what they're dealing with.]
no subject
Nothing.
[ well, it's not strictly true, but he hadn't felt anything particularly out of the ordinary. the strange man, on the other hand... he feels weird in nic's perception. ]
Kill him?
[ he makes an easy gesture with a free hand, like he's asking about the weather. ]
no subject
Nothing.
How is that possible? If there's magic involved, he must have felt something. He looks at that strange man again, trying to assess their situation. The stationary man seems oddly unfazed by their appearance. If he's as strong as the girl implied, he should have sensed their presence by now. Or is he waiting for an opportunity to attack them? Or...]
Girl, is he blind?
[He backs away and at the same time gives Nic a small nod, mouthing silently to him so he could keep it from the panicky girl. She can pretend all she wants but having been in battlefield all his life, her cover can't fool him. ] Test him.
[It's not that he doesn't trust her but he still feels odd about the sudden change. Especially because it's triggered by the grandfather they are here to investigate. Bloodbending, whatever it is, can he still uses it? Tieria knows everyone lost their original ability when they arrived in Goldvale. Wouldn't the same apply?]
no subject
[Korra frowns, her concentration broken for a moment. No, he's not-
The thought hasn't made it to her lips before she feels it, that awful tension shooting through her entire body as she completely loses motor control. She barely manages a glance in Amon's direction to see that he's looking directly at her before she's sent flying backward clear across the room. She can't even shout.
Think, Korra! Think!
She's done for if she can't keep calm, but how is she supposed to do that?! Amon was supposed to be gone! No longer a threat! A thousand questions still rush through her mind. She can't move, so she can't fight. How is she supposed to-
Hold on.
For the first time since they appeared in this place, there's a swell of triumph in Korra's chest. She can't move, but she can still fight. Forcing herself to focus, she desperately tries to remember her spells. Water, her best element, will only make the situation worse, Fire could end up killing all of them...]
no subject
...what the hell? nic moves, out of amon's immediate line of sight behind some of the boxes. it looks like he'll have to get closer if he wants to land a hit, but that would also mean getting in range of whatever abilities the strange man has.
instead, he glares at korra, trying to catch her attention. ]
You fought him before. How?
no subject
What just happened?! Whatever that stranger's power is, it looks like they will be in trouble trying to get near him to land hits. Their only way of dealing any damage to him would rest on their Sorceress, who is currently lying on the floor. He immediately try to get her attention, motioning for her to take cover nearby.]
Are you alright?! Move! [Watching her, he's trying to to calculate the distance between himself, her and the nearest safe area so he could move her if she can't move on her own.]
no subject
Bending. And... a lot of luck-
[Korra manages to force herself onto her elbows, lifting her back slightly off the ground. She scowls, focusing everything she can on the space around Amon. After a moment, the beginnings of small sparks begin to form in the air around him. A Lightning evokation.
For the first time since arriving in Goldvale, Korra is thankful that magic is in the mind rather than the body. But it's going to take a little more than that.]
no subject
still, the clock's aura seems just as important. he doesn't have a ranged attack, but he has enough speed to go for it with a heavy blow. ]
no subject
When it seems obvious she can't move from her spot, he watch his timing and kicks one of the box hard, sending it flying to the stranger. At the same time, he rushes to her side to drags her to a nearer hiding spot as fast as possible. ]
I'll cover you, attack.
no subject
Got it.
[She isn't sure why Amon isn't being as active in his attacks as he usually is, but that's a welcome change. Korra leans lightly against the crates keeping them hidden, trying to ignore the tremors in her arms and legs. She feels like she's going to be sick.]
I'm gonna shock him. Hopefully paralyze him long enough for you guys to get him before he can concentrate again.
[Standing up straighter, she focuses what little energy she has left into the evokation, and soon stronger sparks are beginning to crawl through the air near Amon. Yeah, lightning is just fire in its purest form, but it's worth the risk, now.]
no subject
he understands enough to go along. as soon as she's ready, he's ready to attack with tieria. ]
no subject
When the lightning strike the stranger dead on, he wasted no time and rushed forward to land as many strikes as he can on him. It was then that he noticed the glowing grandfather clock.
Getting an idea, he told Nic while he continued to attack.]
Nic, get the clock. Hurry!
no subject
Korra is silent as she keeps up the spell, daring to peek out from behind the boxes. It's working. There's a flare of rage when she catches sight of him, her grip tightening on the edge of the crate. He shouldn't be here. He shouldn't be able to do this. Korra growls, the bolts growing stronger the more she watches him.
At this rate, she's going to drain all of her vikrafte, but she can't bring herself to care.]
no subject
he's going to need to resharpen his sword after this. but if they can't finish this mission, he'll have more to worry about than his blade.
the grandfather clock is coming apart into pieces, and the room that they're in starts to change, as if wavering between two locations. ]
no subject
[Having no idea what's happening, he rushed to the girl who must exhausted after unleashing so much magic.] You alright?
[Still, he has a bad feeling about being in a space that's warping between one another. Being trapped in between space is not the way he wants to finish his mission.] We need to get out of here. Search for the actual door!
[He looks around, hurriedly searching for the door between the warping space.]
no subject
[Korra's got enough juice for one last big hit, but her vikrafte's starting to get dangerously low. Efficiency has never been her strong point, especially now that she's limited on how much she can attack with. How stupid is that?!]
I'm fine- try heading out the door... the door behind him. [She speaks through panted breaths, having exhausted herself.] Either that... Or we gotta destroy the clock. It's the source. All this wavering magic energy's coming from there.
